Dear fellow students,

we‘re wishing you a warm welcome into the summer semester – whether you are new to Heidelberg University or have been here for a while: It’s us once again, the Studierendenrat (Student Council) – your student representatives!

Here are a few things we would like to draw your attention to:

(1) Survey on climate protection

(2) Referenda about the offices concerning themselves with “Working Class Students“, Disability and Health“, Inter*, Trans*, Women and Non-binary“ (It’s FuN)

(3) Elections in the summer semester

(4) More wage, more money, more BAföG

(5) Your student representation turns 10!

(6) The new semester planner is here

(7) What does the Doctoral Convention do?

(8) Financial application deadlines in the summer semester

(9) Get involved – in the student representation, its departments and working groups

(10) Get involved – in university groups

(1) Survey on climate protection

The university is currently working on a sustainability strategy. In order to better take into account your interests regarding this topic, we‘ve created a survey. We‘re looking forward to active participation!

(2) Referenda about the offices concerning themselves with “Working Class Students“, Disability and Health“, Inter*, Trans*, Women and Non-binary“ (It’s FuN)

The autonomous offices (Autonome Referate) “Disability and Health“ and „Inter*, Trans*, Women and Non-binary“ (It’s FuN) lie idle, the autonomous office „Working Class Students“ is about to be newly founded. Autonomous offices are assemblies of students affected by discrimination who stand up for their interests at the university. We would therefore like to invite all affected students at Heidelberg University to the three first ever plenary meetings of these offices on the 30th of April at 6pm in the “Neuer Hörsaal Physik“ (the auditorium next to the StuRa office at Albert-Ueberle-Str. 3-5) You can find more information here.

(3) Elections in the summer semester

The elections for student committees – Fachrat, Fachschaftsrat, Studierendenrat, Doctoral Convention – will take place this semester, most of these elections will be held online from 24 June to 2 July. If you are eligible to vote, you will receive an email directly to the email address linked to your Uni-ID.

Also the university itself is holding elections for the Senate and Faculty Councils. All necessary information on standing as a candidate as well as on how to vote can be found here: Election Info No. 1 / Summer Semester 24.

(4) More wage, more money, more BAföG

Wages for student assistants are rising, more information here, and what‘s more, we can also give your wallet a treat. Our social consultation hour will help you with getting more BAföG: We know all the tips and tricks on the subject and can help you securing your study funding. Moreover, we‘re available to answer any of your other questions, e.g. regarding housing benefit, handicap compensation or anything else having to do with your studies. We also have special consultation hours on BAföG for PhD and international students. All regular and special consultation hours can be found here.

Our Emergency Committee, which gives money to students in financial need, is also looking for people who would like to volunteer for helping out their peers.

(5) Your student representation turns 10!

The constituted student body has now been in existence for ten years – a celebration is in order: 8 July 2024 in the Aula of the Neue Uni. More details about the programme as well as other events in our anniversary week will follow in the coming weeks and months on both, our website and social media: keep your eyes and ears open! Let’s celebrate ten years of StuRa and hope for the best for the next ten years!

(6) The new semester planner is here

The new semester planner for the summer semester 2024 has arrived and is now available at various locations. In the footer you will find information about the student body and its wide range of offers. More importantly, of course, you can use it to conveniently plan the semester and post your dates in the kitchen or in your room.

(7) What does the Doctoral Convention do?

The Doctoral Convention represents the interests of doctoral students, particularly in the revision of doctoral regulations. However, it also organises regular get-togethers and workshops and can also support events. On this page you will find all the information about what exactly the Doctoral Convention does and how you can get involved – both inside and outside the university. Incidentally, the board of the Doctoral Convention is also newly elected in the summer semester.

(8) Financial application deadlines in the summer semester

If you are part of a student group or initiative and would like to receive project-related financial support from StuRa, you should mark 11 June, 18 June and 2 July in your calendar: You can submit financial applications to the StuRa until 11 June, 11:59 pm, and the financial application meetings will take place on the other two days. The StuRa Executive Committee will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the procedure. They offer consultation hours on Tuesdays from 12 to 2 pm in the StuRa office.

(9) Get involved – in the student representation, its departments and working groups

If you want to stand up for student interests, e.g. advise and support other students in difficult situations, push for better cycle paths between the university campuses or help with the introduction of freshmen, you can get involved in the student representation on all levels. You don’t have to be elected or a member of a group to do this. You can simply join in anywhere. So: drop by your student council or visit a department or working group at central level. You can find the contact times on the pages of the student councils, working groups or departments.

(10) Get involved – in university groups

In addition to the student representations, there are more than 140 university groups at the university in which you can get involved. Take a look at our list of university groups – there’s bound to be something for you!

… et voilà, that’s all from us! If you want to stay up to date: Subscribe to our German- and English-language Instagram channel, and visit our website regularly or read our themed newsletters. We look forward to seeing you soon in one of the student councils or directly in our office!

Wishing you a sunny summer semester
